Mode of transport – Surface and flight.
Day 1: Arrival at Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa.
Depending on your schedule, meet a greet Bale Mountains Tours representative at Bole International Airport you may begin your tour after checking in to your hotel.
After lake break visit Ethnological museum, a great introduction to Ethiopia culture and history. Visit Merkato, one of the African’s largest our door markets and Trinity cathedral resting place of Emperor Haile sillasse.
Overnight– Addis Ababa.
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Bahirdar:
Fly to Bahir dar on Ethiopian Airlines visit the market place in Bahir dar. Take a boat tour on Lake Tana, the source of Blue Nile fall and tour ancient Island monasteries.
Overnight– BahirDar hotel.
Day 3: Bahir Dar – Gonder (“African Camelot”):
Depending on the season, morning drive to see Blue Nile falls and return to Bahir Dar for lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Gonder north of Lake Tana, stopping at the village of Awra Amba.
Day 4: Gonder:
Visit the remote ruins of Kuskuam, built for empress Mentewab in the 1700’s. After lunch, tour to Royal enclosure, a UNESCO world heritage site featuring five castles built by a succession of Ethiopian kings beginning in the early 17th century. Having survived several wars, including air raids during world war 2, the castles area testament to the resilience of this once mighty African Empire. Overnight – Gonder.
Day 5: Gonder to Simien Mountains National Park:
Drive to Sankeber the gate way to the Simien Mountains national park, a world heritage site. Enjoy some light hiking in the afternoon in the park.
Overnight – Simien Lodge.
Day 6: Simien Mountains – Axum:
Take a scenic drive to Axum, capital of the ancient Axumite Empire and a UNESCO world heritage site. Frequent stops at view points a long the way. Arrive Axum late Afternoon.
Overnight – Axum Hotel.
Day 7: Fly to Lalibela ( “African Petra”) :
Fly to Lalibela on Ethiopian Airlines 700km in surface north of Addis Ababa. Tour the magnificient rock – hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO world heritage site. This group of eleven monolithic and semi monolithic structures were carved directly into the stone of the mountain side at least 800 years ago.
Overnight – Lalibela one of hotel.
Day 8: Axum:
Tour to the ancient stelea field, standing for 200 years ago. Visit the new impressive archeological museum. Visit other tombs and archeological sites as time permits.
Overnight – Axum.
Day 9: Visit Lalibela (African Petra).
In the morning we have two choices: Take a morning hike with mules to mount Asheton, with its 13th century rock hewn monastery and great view of the town – or- drive to Yemrehana kiristos will also give you the opportunity to view the rural country side and villages of the Ethiopian highlands. Following either option above continue with tour to Lalibela’s churches in the afternoon.
Day 10: Fly to Addis Ababa:
Fly to Addis Ababa and tour to city tour such as visit the national museum, home of the 3 million years old skeleton “Lucy” or “Dinknesh” option souvenir shopping. Enjoy a farewell dinner at traditional Ethiopian restaurant featuring dances and musicians representing some of the country’s many ethnic groups of Ethiopia.
Transfer to airport for the late night departure back home.
